Beautiful sunshine greeted the teams for another local derby. Both teams came into the game on the back of impressive victories.
Portlaoise started brightly and opened the scoring within the first five minutes,Tobi Olaoye burying the ball in at the near post. Robbie Farrell doubled the lead shortly after.
St Aengus replied in style with two good goals in quick succession. Lee Moore put the home side ahead before a Cillian Friel cross was deflected into his own net by an unfortunate St Aengus defender. The score stayed at four-two til half time.
The first goal of the second half was always going to be vital. Portlaoise scored it through Harry Whalley. St Aengus once again replied but Portlaoise added another when Brian Brennan found the net. Olaoye then added his second and Portlaoises seventh. Cameron Carlisle scored the goal of the game with an audacious chip from outside the box.
Fittingly it was Tobi Olaoye who finished the scoring, completing his hatrick in the process. It was a thoroughly deserved treble for the big front man who recorded his first hatrick for the club.
Portlaoise will be delighted with their precision in front of goal,an aspect of their game which can sometimes be lacking. Also to have so many different scorers was very pleasing for the coaches.
