Portlaoise put in a top class performance to beat Larkview Boys at the Belfield Bowl on Friday night in the final of the LSL’s Polikoff Cup.
The Major Division Sunday side, who will be playing Intermediate football next season got the perfect start against Premier Sunday rivals and were two goals to the good in the first seven minutes.
With five minutes on the clock James Mullaney crossed into the area, the ball fell to Neil Heffernan who smashed the ball into the net. Just two minutes later and the advantage was doubled after Dylan McCabe slotted home.
Portlaoise looked to be coasting but Larkview hit back almost instantly. The ball found its way to Kevin Byrne on the edge of the area and he hit a cracking dipping volley that flew into the top corner.
Portalaoise maintained their slim advantage going into the break but were two goals clear early in the second half when Martin Staunton fired home.
The icing on the cake came late in the game when James Mullaney converted after a corner kick and Portlaoise were crowned Polikoff Cup champions for 2015.
